The Five-Figure Blog Challenge

The Five-figure blog challenge. What is it and why on earth should you care?

Firstly, the challenge is kind of an extension of a New Year’s resolution. Nothing too fancy, I just want to make more money this year.

You don’t have to care about the challenge, but the thing I’m hoping to prove or disprove is that pretty much anyone can make a tidy income online if they put the research in, learn about some strategies and follow the advice of the experts.

I’m hoping more than ever actually that this is true because you see, I’m a Smart Dummy.

I did explain  what a Smart Dummy is but if you missed it, I’ll give you the highlights: I’m a smart woman. I’ve got many skills and talents that make me pretty awesome. BUT I’m also a dummy when it comes to certain things. For instance, I don’t know how to write lots of code that will make my site sing and dance. So I’m a Smart Dummy. Good at what I know and a bit dumb with other things.

The Challenge

In a nutshell, I’m going to start a blog from scratch – this blog to be precise – and make it a money spinner over the course of the year. I aim to have a five-figure blog in a few months time.

Now although this is straightforward, there are some caveats:

  • I won’t be putting any money in to the blog that hasn’t been made by the blog – A lot of people don’t have the money to shell out for a custom-designed site or a web developer or even their own domain name at first. You can watch me start with nothing and build my way up from the bottom. I’ll be using the blog to leverage new clients as well as using other money making tactics (affiliates etc.) to pay for the whole shebang.

  • I’ll be providing ALL of my own content – Guest posts will be welcomed and encouraged. But nobody else will ghostwrite my posts. If it has my name underneath it or next to it – it’s me. This is all about showing you that all you need to be successful is a vision and the ability to knuckle down and get on with it.

  • I won’t be revealing my real name until I reach my goal – I’m a freelance writer with a fair few contacts and clients (remember I said I’m smart too – I got skills!). But I didn’t want to use those contacts in any way shape or form to help me with my goal. Each connection on my blog or through my social media profiles will be as Smart Dummy, nobody else. I’ll probably share the occasional success story with you all from my ‘original’ me because, well, sometimes I’m a smartypants bragger 😀 Plus there might be some valuable tips that will come in useful.

  • I won’t be dedicating all of my time to this – What??!!! How is it going to be a success if every waking minute is NOT spent on this blog? Because I’m smart enough to know that quality isn’t the same amount as quantity. I need to carry on with my ‘original me’ life outside of this blog. My clients need to know that I’ll offer them the same dedication that I always have done. So I’ll work on this blog in my downtime. When I first start I’ll need to put in a lot of work I know but hopefully within a few months, I’ll be able to spend a couple of hours daily on here. However, every second of those couple of hours will be exquisitely executed. Quality work in quality time – all shoddiness is barred from here!

What to Expect

So what should you expect from the Smart Dummy blog?

My aim here is to be useful to you. I’ll have to put in a lot of hard work to keep you guys happy but it’s you lot that will really make the challenge sink or swim.

That’s why I won’t be filling my posts full of utter s#@% that you can’t use.

It’s why I won’t be sending you endless reams of emails that are a waste of your time.

It’s why I’d rather eat my own foot than ignore any of your questions or comments.

I’ll be posting about:

  • My favorite writers/bloggers/sites that I’ve gleamed valuable nuggets of information from to make my blog better.

  • Which methods/advice/strategies I’ve found useful.

  • Which methods/advice/strategies I’ve found useless.

  • How I, ME, MYSELF do things and whether I’ve found it to be a smart or a dumb move – please note that just because things don’t work for me doesn’t mean they won’t for you. I’m not telling people how to do things – I’m giving a detailed account of how I do them so that you can make a better decision about what you want to do.

Bottom Line

Am I doing all this just to make your life better with no gain of my own? Errm no. I’m human.

I’m making things better for all of us by learning, sharing and basically teaching each other.

I’ll be making all my mistakes right here so that you can learn from them and hopefully avoid your own. If this blog, run by a person that openly admits they’re a bit of a dummy can make five-figures in a matter of months – what can you achieve?

So yes, I’ll be making money from this blog (hopefully) eventually. But I’ll be showing you how I do it and I’ll be making money through creating legitimate, valuable resources. I am not a dodgy Rolex salesperson and there won’t be any shady goings on here.

Whatcha Think?

So what do you think of it all? I’d love to know your thoughts – Good or bad I can handle both as long as you give me some reasoning behind your opinion.

I’m going to have an amazing opt in offer soon enough – just as soon as I figure out what it is you all want the most. So leave your thoughts in the comments below and I’ll get to work on making all of our lives more awesome 🙂
